George Lenore Lyons

George Lenore Lyons, 68, of Hampton, TN, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by his family. His heart’s desire was granted as the angels ushered him to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior and his wife.

Lenore loved the Lord with all of his heart and served Him faithfully until his death. He loved his church and church family and was a member and deacon of the Hampton Church of God. He loved to read his Bible and to pray. He enjoyed playing the piano. He was retired due to disability.

Lenore was preceded in death by his wife of forty-four years, Mary Elizabeth (Susie) Lyons, his parents, Sam and Alice Lyons, his brothers, Claude Lyons and J.L. Lyons, his sisters, Bonnie Pierce, Eula Mae Woodby, Violet Johnson, and an infant sister.

Lenore is survived by a sister, Sylvia Crabtree, IN; and a brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Dora Lyons, OH; sisters-in-law and their spouses, Geraldine and Lonnie Shell, Elizabethton; Evelyn and Doyle Jones, Unicoi; and Hattie Lee and Darrell Hitechew, Hampton; and sisters-in-law, Janice Honeycutt and Tish Honeycutt of Elizabethton; and Hazel Lyons, Kingsport. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The funeral service for Mr. Lyons will be conducted on Saturday, Oc. 22, 2011 at 3 p.m. in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Hobart Bradshaw officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Hampton Church of God Singers. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1-3 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home or at the residence of a sister-in-law, Geraldine Shell. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Birchfield, Josh Green, Darrell Hitechew, Joe Hitechew, Tony Hitechew, J.L. Mullins, Michael Mullins, and Lonnie Shell. Honorary pallbearers will be B.J. Honeycutt, Neil Honeycutt, George Jarrett, Chuckie Jones, Doyle Jones, Scott Roberts, Amos Stevens, Jr., Glen Wiseman, Buster Young, and the men of Hampton Church of God. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU and 2300 Wings of Johnson City Medical Center Hospital for their compassionate and excellent care of Lenore and his family.
