Glenda Gay Hyder, 65, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Fred and Elsie Carver Hyder.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Grindstaff, and a brother, Glenn Hyder. Ms. Hyder was a former employee of Texas Instruments and a 1965 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a member of Roan Street Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include two nephews, Gregory Glenn Hyder, Chicago, Ill., and the Rev. Jeffery Hyder and his wife, Cheryl, Fayetteville, N.C.; three great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; and a sister-in-law, Lyndell Hyder-Snyder, Elizabethton.

The graveside service for Ms. Hyder will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, January 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Jeffery Hyder officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Reuben Hyder, Daniel Hyder and Jonathan Hyder. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Friday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
