Harvey Dalton Tolley, 87, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord unexpectedly on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Tolley was born in Unicoi County, but had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Edith Hampton Tolley, on April 6, 2007. He was the son of the late E.K. and Nancy Jane Britt Tolley and was also preceded in death by three brothers.
Mr. Tolley was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, but attended Crosspointe Fellowship Church. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 44 years of service in the Powerhouse.
Mr. Tolley was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, where he earned the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal (2 stars) and the World War II Victory Medal.
He also loved to garden and work in his flowers.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bart Barton, Elizabethton, and Judy and Roger White, Johnson City; five step-grandchildren; special friends, Tina Hardin and Wendy Perry, both of Elizabethton; two nephews and one niece; and special loved ones, Shirley Owens and Jerry Beck.
The funeral service for Mr. Tolley will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 28, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Harold Mains and Rev. Chuck Babb officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Saturday.
