Hazel Edens Holden, 87, Johnson City, passed away Monday, September 24, 2012, at her residence after a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Harrison and Annie Maude Sims Edens.
Mrs. Holden was a 1943 graduate of Happy Valley High School and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 47 years of service. She was a member of the Milligan Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Carroll Holden, who died August 26, 1985; four brothers, Donald, Ralph, Jack and Harold Edens; and a sister, Ann Valentine.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Buddy Dawson, of the home; two grandchildren, Tim Dawson and wife Wendy, Braselton, Ga., and Melissa Dawson, Loganville, Ga.; three great-grandsons, Brent, Gage and Jared; her sisters, Wilma Montgomery, Phoenix, Ariz., Jean White and husband Phil, Johnson City, and Nancy Alsup, Elizabethton; a brother, Tom Edens and wife Hazel, Greeneville, N.C.; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Edens, Tallahassee, Fla., Kay Edens, Johnson City, and Helen Westmoreland, Johnson City; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and her special friends, Sharon Campbell (cousin), Joy Reeser, Jewel Harvell, Sharon South, Betty Berry, Donna Shubert and June Street.
Funeral services for Mrs. Holden will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Street officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 28, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Music will be provided by April Pitman and Joel Street. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday, will be Buddy Dawson, Tim Dawson, Mark Edens, Tommy Burleson, Jeff Campbell, Craig Shubert and Luther McKeehan. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Holden to the Milligan Free Will Baptist Church, 1471 Milligan Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence.
