Howard Shannon

image Howard Shannon, 98, Johnson City, passed away Monday, August 06, 2012 at Appalachian Christian Village. A native of Marion, VA he was the son of the late John W. and Ellen Neitch Shannon. Mr. Shannon was raised in Johnson City, graduating from Science Hill where he played basketball and won the Debate Championship in 1934. Mr. Shannon was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II. He worked as a Mechanical Contractor and was owner of Carolina Air Conditioning Co., Inc., in Durham, NC for 28 years before returning to Johnson City.

Mr. Shannon was a member of First Presbyterian Church Johnson City where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Johnson City Civitan Club and a Boy Scout Leader. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Parrott Shannon, sisters, Margaret Webb and Rebecca Stanley; and brothers, Blair Shannon, Marvin Shannon, and John Shannon.

He leaves behind a niece and goddaughter, Jean Stanley and her husband Jesse Rainer; goddaughter, Cynthia Nowell Keating; niece and husband, Carolyn and Phil Guinn; nephew and wife Buddy and Sally Webb; great nephew, Del Webb; niece, Lisa Stanley; nephew and wife, Ed and Judy Stanley; and special friend, Armelda Barlow. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Howard Shannon will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 11, 2012 in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Reverend Don Muncie officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM till the service hour.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the nurses and staff at Appalachian Christian Village for the care and support given to Mr. Shannon and his family.
