Howard Holsclaw, Jr., 78, of Elizabethton died on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.

A native of Wilkesboro, NC, he was the son of the late Howard Wilson Holsclaw, Sr. and Bertha Mae Miller Holsclaw. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Steward Holsclaw and David Holsclaw; and one sister, Virginia Holsclaw Davis. Mr. Holsclaw was a member of Eastside Christian Church where he was a former deacon. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He loved playing music.

Survivors include his wife, Dinah Holsclaw, of the home; three sons, Jimmy Howard Holsclaw, Danny Ray Holsclaw and Christopher Dale Holsclaw, all of Elizabethton; three daughters, Angela Lee Ward and Crystal Gail Aleman, both of Elizabethton; and Regina Faye Payne, Jonesborough; two step-sons, Don Penix, Piney Flats and Terry Penix, Elizabethton; twenty grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, John Wesley Holsclaw, Elizabethton; five sisters, Mable Turner, Beatrice Gouge, Mildred “Mid” Wood and Frances Depew, all of Elizabethton; and Charlotte Brill, Laurel, MS. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Holsclaw will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 30th in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Randle Johnson, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday prior to the funeral service. Friends may call at the residence of a sister, Mable Turner, at anytime.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 1st at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. John Smith, Minister, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from Mr. Holsclaw’s grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Ledford, Cooter Williams, Harvey Tester and all Blue Grass Pickers and Players. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton at 9:15 AM on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
