Jack H. Cannon, 89, died on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton. Mr. Cannon, a son of the late Lessie H. and Florine Smalling Cannon, was a lifelong resident of Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. K. Charles Cannon. A World War II Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Cannon made landings with the 4th Marine Division on Saipan, Tinian, Kwajalein and Iwo Jima. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Doris Macauley Cannon; sister, Elsie Jean Crowe and husband, Bob; son, Dale and wife, Joni, Johnson City; son, Blair, Knoxville; son, Wade and wife, Jan, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Tara Thomas and husband, John, Kyle Cannon and wife, Melinda, Brandon Cannon and wife, Meg, and Brittany Cannon; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Elizabeth Thomas, Molly, Jack and Luke Cannon. The Requiem Mass for Mr. Cannon will be on Thursday, September 26, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of St. John’s Episcopal Church with Father Harry Shaefer officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kyle Cannon, Brandon Cannon, John Thomas, Elijah Thomas, Steve Gross, Gary Burleson and John Whitson. There will be a visitation with the family on Thursday prior to the service from 12:30-2:00 P.M. at the church. Memorials in Jack Cannon’s name may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 500 N.
