Jack Allen Hilton, 83, Elizabethton passed away Monday, September 2, 2013 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Alonzo and Annie Mae Bradley Hilton. He was a 1949 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was owner and operator of Hilton’s Bear Safety Service for 40 years. He was a member of the Southside Christian Church. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 2166, The American Legion Post 49, Watauga Masonic Lodge # 622, The East Tennessee Corvair Club, and the Corsa Corvair of America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Hilton and a sister: Mary Evelyn Tapley. Survivors include his wife of 61 years: Billie June Livingston Hilton. Three Daughters: Debby Hilton Proffitt, and Jackie Hilton Slagle and her husband Charlie, all of Elizabethton and Phyllis Hilton, Knoxville. Two Grandsons: Justin Alan Proffitt and wife Sarah, Norfolk, Virginia, Jonathan David Proffitt, Winter Garden, Florida, One Granddaughter: Ashton Elizabeth Slagle, One Great Grandson: David Alan Proffitt. Two Nieces: Mary Juanita Hilton Hammitt, Shannon Tapley Vien, Jacksonville, Florida, One Nephew: James (Jimmy) Hilton.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Mike Koruschak and Mr. David Siebenaler, Ministers, officiating. Honorary Minister will be Mr. Paul Knapp. The Entombment Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by The Gospel Trio and Mr. Keith Whitehead. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday will be: Rick Meredith, Frank Mustard, Jimmy Hilton, Gary Simerly, Casey Burgess, Walter Pierce, Andy Naylor and Dwight Stiltner. Honorary pallbearers will be: Friends and family of the Southside Community, Nurses and employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, The Elizabethton High School Class of 1949, Elders and Deacons of Southside Christian Church, members of the East Tenn. Corvair Club, Max Williams, Jim Hampton, Jeff Pritchard, Bill Hyder, Paul Lumston, Mack Murray, and Randy Lingerfelt. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and Tennessee National Guard. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Hilton to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
