Memorial Funeral Chapel
Elizabethton, TN
Jack Kenneth Scott, 79, Elizabethton, son of the late Claude and Bessie Mae Scott, went to meet his Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 23, 2012, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mr. Scott was retired from the Elizabethton Housing Agency and was an avid worker at East Side Baptist Church, where he attended most of his life.
He left behind his wife of 52 years, Goldia Ward Scott; one son, K. Bryan Scott; two daughters, Holly Scott and Cindy Cable; one granddaughter, Savanna Cable; one great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Marie Cable; one son-in-law, Paul David Cable; one sister-in-law, Wilma Scott of Johnson City, Tenn.; three nephews, Steve, Joe and Tim Scott; three great-nieces, Hannah, Sarah and Ellen Scott; two great-nephews, Charlie and Joey Scott; three brothers-in-law, Charlie, Nathan and Conrad Ward; two sisters-in-law, Dixie Norris and Nola Church; many nieces and nephews he loved so much on his wife’s side of the Ward Family; and a special friend, Robbie Cardwell.
Jack was an avid fisherman. He used to fish every Saturday while he was working and after retirement he fished whenever he felt like it. Jack loved all his friends at the church, in fact, he loved most everybody he met! He always liked to smile, joke and tease. He was a good husband and father who provided well for his family. If somebody needed his services, he was there in his old green truck to take them to places they needed to go. We remember Jack most by his smile. He was a friend to all and happy in the Lord.
Funeral services for Mr. Scott will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, October 26, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Sam Rogers will read the Eulogy. Music will be provided by singing the praise songs he loved so well, with Claude Duncan, former choir director, leading. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, are Paul Cable, Robert Norris, James Norris, Gary Elliott, Sam Rogers, Ray Davis, Mike Gass, Carmon Whisnant and Bob Barnette. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Brownlow Scalf Sunday School Class at East Side Baptist Church, the ladies of the church and all his fishing buddies. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 26, at the funeral home.
