Jack L. Proffitt, age 90, of the Milligan Community, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was a son of the late James “Jim†and Wilma Lawrence Proffitt and was born in Trade, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ann Eller Proffitt, in 2009; one granddaughter, Holly Proffitt; four brothers, Lee Proffitt, Fred Proffitt, Harold Proffitt and Tommy Proffitt; and one infant sister, Lucille Proffitt.
Mr. Proffitt was a member of Henson’s Chapel Church, where he was saved in 1935. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in World War II. He retired after forty years of service as a warehouse foreman with Giant Wholesale and Fleming Foods.
Mr. Proffitt enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved listening to country music, fishing, coin collecting, reading and eating M&M’s.
Survivors include one son, Marty Proffitt and his wife, Chelli, Elizabethton; three daughters, Jackie Hampton and her husband, Bill, Roan Mountain, Kathie Anderson and her husband, Dennis, Johnson City, Barbara Merritt, Elizabethton; one sister, Mary Wilson and her husband, Rev. Carl Wilson, Buledean, NC; nine grandchildren, Toni Harris and her husband, Joel, Terri Wiseman and her husband, Scott, Angel Taylor and her husband, Shane, J.D. Chambers and his wife, Amber, Travis Anderson, Jamie Dmytruk and her husband, Kirk, Aaron Proffitt, Sherry Smith and Jimmy Lovelace and his fiancée, Ashley Durbin; fourteen great-grandchildren, Adam Taylor, Dylan Wiseman, Logan Campbell, Seth Taylor, Tammy Campbell, Chase Taylor, Caleb Campbell, Cayden Campbell, Tyler Chambers, Jacob Chambers, Gage Chambers, Holly Brooklyn, Addison Smith and Carson Dmytruk. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Jack L. Proffitt will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, July 19, 2012, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Mike Able officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the residence at other times.
The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral on Thursday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Lovelace, Kirk Dmytruk, Scott Wiseman, Joel Harris, Travis Anderson and Aaron Proffitt.
