Jack Lipford, 70, of Johnson City, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following an extended illness. Jack was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late B.A. and Doris Leondas Farthing Lipford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Angelyn Osborne Lipford. Mr. Lipford was a 1962 graduate of Elizabethton High School, where he played football and was the captain of the football team, and enjoyed eating with the Breakfast Club. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Johnson City and was a United States Navy veteran. He enjoyed watching football and the St. Louis Cardinals. Survivors include a daughter, Wendy Glaspie and husband, Larry, Johnson City; a son, Ernest Lipford and wife, Diondria, Nashville; a brother, Robert “Rat” Parker, Elizabethton; two sisters, Ermine Arwood and husband, Roger, and Patsy Tadlock and husband, Randy, all of Elizabethton; stepchildren, Lori, Richie, Jimmy, Steve, Angela (Jo) Rankin; grandchildren, Gannon and Jannon Glaspie, Megan and Madison Sparks. Several step grandchildren, including Summer, Dakota and Hunter, nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Lipford’s wishes were to be cremated. A gathering of remembrance service for Jack will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Jim Chatman and Rev. Mike Dickenson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jeff White and Rev. Jim Chatman. The family will receive friends from Noon-2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday; or at the home of his sister, Patsy Tadlock, at all other times. The inurnment service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be The Breakfast Club, EHS Class of 1962, and his special friends from Eastman. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mailien Rogers and the Oncology staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for all their love and care extended to Jack and his family during his illness.
