image Jackie “Mama Jack” Hampton, 60, of Roan Mountain, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 31, 2012, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Jack Lawrence Proffitt, who died on July 17, 2012, and Marjorie Ann Eller Proffitt, who died in 2009.

Mrs. Hampton was born in Boone, N.C., and was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Hampton is survived by her husband, Bill Hampton, of the home; two daughters, Terri Wiseman and her husband, Scott, Johnson City, and Toni Harris and her husband, Joel, Johnson City; three grandchildren, Logan Campbell, Dylan Wiseman and Tammy Campbell; a step-son, Wade Hampton and his wife, Teresa, Roan Mountain; two sisters, Kathie Anderson and her husband, Dennis, Johnson City, and Barbara Merritt, Elizabethton; and a brother, Marty Proffitt and his wife, Chelli, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hampton will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 7, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Tom Burleson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
