Mr. James D. Stamper, age 95, of Elizabethton, TN, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Clayton, KY, he was the son of the late George and Myrtle Barker Stamper. Mr. Stamper retired as a molder from a steel foundry. He was a member of Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ. Mr. Stamper was an avid golfer but his life was his family and his Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christeen McDaniel Stamper; and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Phillips and husband, Charles, Elizabethton; three grandsons, Charlie M. Phillips and wife, Barbara, Elizabethton, Brandon M. Phillips, Bluff City, TN, and Shannon L. Phillips, Asheville, NC; two granddaughters, Michelle R. Lloyd and husband, Tim, Telford, TN, and Shawn M. Hodge, Elizabethton; six great-grandsons, Jacob Hodge, Kyle Bowling, Forrest Bowling, Caleb Lloyd, Jesse Phillips and Garret Phillips; three great-granddaughters, Kaitlin Hodge, Meagan Hodge and Emily Phillips; a brother, Kelly Stamper, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Stewart, Ohio. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service for Mr. James D. Stamper will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ with Rev. Donny Reagan officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Church.
The family will receive friends at the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the funeral service or at the residence at any time.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Charlie Phillips, Brandon Phillips, Shannon Phillips, Jacob Hodge, Kyle Bowling and Jesse Merrit. Honorary pallbearers will be his Church family members of Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ, the nursing staff on the third floor of Franklin Woods Community Hospital and the hospice staff and Family Physicians of Johnson City. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 2:50 P.M. on Sunday for the graveside service.
