James “Eddie” Perkins, age 44, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.

A native of Johnson City, he was the son of James Perkins and wife Ruby, Johnson City, and Mary Collett, Watauga, TN. Mr. Perkins was a member of Princeton Freewill Baptist Church and worked in different capacities for Smith Wholesale.

Eddie loved the Lord, and never met a stranger. He loved to go camping and enjoyed his time with family and friends.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Pam Depew Perkins, Johnson City; two sisters, Karen Cretsinger and Lisa Fields and husband, Jim, all of Watauga, TN; special friends, Rick and Teresa Norris, Jonesborough, and Carl and Joann Huff, Johnson City. Mr. Perkins also has several step brothers and step sisters surviving. Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Perkins will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, December 4, 2011, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Randy English officiating. Music will be under the direction of Andy Williams, Mandy Jones, David and Keevann Humphries and Lori Ann Guinn.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, December 5, at 11:00 A.M. from Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Roger Depew, Matt Bennett, Fred McElyea, Jason Long, Brian Briggs, Matt Norris, Andy Williams and Jim Holland. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Norris, David Hoilman, Michael Depew, Chris Depew, Adam Depew, Josh Depew, Alan Guinn, Heather Kreischer, and employees of Smith Wholesale. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 A.M. to travel in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the nurses of 4500 of the Johnson City Medical Center and to Earl and Beth of the ICU of Johnson City Medical Center and Dr. Jeff Farrow, Dr. William Kincaid and Dr. Kyle Colvett.
