James O. “Jimmy” McKinney, 71, Elizabethton passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Dayton Lloyd McKinney and Hazel Retha Hill McKinney Arnold. He was a 1959 graduate of Happy Valley High School. Jimmy was retired as Maintenance Supervisor with the Elizabethton Housing Agency. Jimmy was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. His love in life was helping others. He loved fishing, hunting, guns and riding his Motorcycle.
Survivors include his wife of fifty one years: Mary Gay Grindstaff McKinney. Two Brothers and One Sister-in-Law: Nathaniel McKinney, Spartanburg, South Carolina and Carroll & Sandra McKinney, Elizabethton. Three Nephews: Scott McKinney, James Grindstaff and Jeremy Grindstaff. One Niece: Adrianne Grindstaff. Two Great Nieces: Taylor Grindstaff and Heather Harrison. One Great Nephew: Josh Grindstaff. A Brother-in-Law: Jerry Grindstaff and wife Teresa, Elizabethton.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Carolyn Pleasant. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday will be: Jerry Grindstaff, Jeremy Grindstaff, James Grindstaff, Richard Lyons, Kelly Geagley, Jeff Kelly, Johnny Holder and David Bulla. Honorary Pallbearers will be: The church families that he had been associated with during the years, The Staff and residences of Pine Ridge Circle and South Hills. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family and his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
