James W. Kyte, 83, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Alvin and Nettie Smith Kyte. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Westmoreland; brothers, Verlin, Clay, Edward, Martin, Floyd, and Dana Harmon Kyte.

Mr. Kyte was a retired construction worker and was a member of Local Union 538, Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former member of Capt. Lynn H. Folsom, VFW Post 2166. He was a United States Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife of fifty eight years, Shirley Crowe Kyte, of the home; a daughter, Sebrina Love and husband Keith, Jonesborough; a son, Bryan Kyte and wife Nancy, Elizabethton; and one grandson, Kody Love, Joneborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The graveside service for Mr. Kyte will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Joe Sorah, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM on Wednesday at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton; or at the residence at anytime. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow co-workers of Local Union 538, Plumbers and Pipefitters. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, to go in procession.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Mission Fund at Calvary Baptist Church, 225 N. Holly Lane, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
