Mr. Jerry M. Hawkins, age 64, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in the Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville, TN, unexpectedly.

He was born in Carter County and was the son of the late Luther Hawkins and Carrie Jane Ellis Hawkins Donnelly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ricky Campbell.

Mr. Hawkins was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired truck driver from Summers Taylor, Inc. He was a 1966 graduate of Elizabethton High School and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. He enjoyed spending his time with his very special grandson, Cameron, and loved to attend gospel singing events.

He is survived by his wife, Junette Stevens Hawkins, of the home; a daughter, Ginny Lee Campbell, of Elizabethton; a very special grandson, Cameron Campbell, of the home; a sister, Mary Katherine Bumpus and husband, David, of Greenwood, SC; a stepmother, Lois Donnelly, of Elizabethton; a special cousin, Danny Ornduff, of Elizabethton; a special uncle and aunt, Lawrence and Hazel Stevens, of Elizabethton; two nieces also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Jerry M. Hawkins will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Saturday, May 14, 2011 in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Mark Grubb officiating. Mr. Robert Sluder will deliver the eulogy. Music will be under the direction of Mary Grindstaff and Rick and Kathy Melton.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 3:00 PM in the Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Lawrence Boone, Kelly Crain, Andy Guinn, Richard Davenport, Eddie Presnell, Fred Simerly and David Flythe. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Livingston, Danny Ornduff, Danny “Smoke” Avery, Teddy Avery, Steve Case, Ronnie Joe Silvers, Todd McCoury, Lawrence Stevens, Dr. Howard Dennis, Dr. Todd Whitaker, Hubert Tipton, Gerald Williams, Roy Campbell and Little Brother Avery.

Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 2:15 PM to go in procession to the cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49 of Elizabethton.
