Joan Carol Mottern Byrd, age 75 of Athens, passed away, June 15, 2012 at her residence.
A native and resident of Elizabethton, Tennessee most of her life, and a resident of McMinn County for the past 3 years, she was a daughter of the late Justin and Catherine Gentry Mottern.
She was of the Protestant Faith, was employed as a Registered Nurse and taught Practical Nursing at Marshall T. Nave Technical School.
She was a volunteer for the Mobile Blood Drive and a longtime member of the BPW Club.
Survivors: Husband, Billy Joe Byrd; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. David and Dr. Jenny Byrd, of Athens; Bill and Kay Byrd, of Elizabethton, TN; 3 grandchildren, Todd Marion, Katie Byrd and Will Byrd; Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, June 17, 2012 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Carlos Peterson officiating. Interment will be 1:30 PM Monday, June 18, 2012 at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Sunday prior to the service at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens.
