Mrs. Joann Winters Mottern, age 81, of Elizabethton, TN, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Johnson City, TN, she was the daughter of the late David and Rebecca Roark Winters.

Joann always enjoyed spending time at the family houseboat on Watauga Lake and during her younger years was an avid golfer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Raymond David “Little Fuzz” Mottern; and two brothers, Mack David Winters and Clifford Winters.

Survivors include her husband, Harry B. “Fuzz” Mottern, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Ashley Ellis and husband, Jeremy, Nashville, TN; a grandson, Matthew Mottern, Johnson City; her former daughter-in-law, Kim Lyons and husband, Rick, Elizabethton; and a special friend, Bernice Taylor, Elizabethton.

Funeral service for Mrs. Joann Winters Mottern will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 3, 2013, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Michael Koruschak, minister, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the service.

Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Carl Ray Nidiffer, Rick Broome, B.J. Taylor, Brady Williams, Chad Allara, Terry Arnold, Eddie Wilson, Keith Tolley, Glen White and Luke Nidiffer.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff and physicians of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for their care of Mrs. Mottern.
