John M. Lewis Sr., 74, Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Howard C. and Beulah Hipps Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was a 1955 graduate of Happy Valley High School and attended Steed College. He served in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Lewis was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Sara Braswell Lewis; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Rodney Earp, Clayton, N.C.; a son, John M. Lewis Jr., Knoxville; and two grandchildren, Caitlin and William.
Graveside services for Mr. Lewis will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Bruce Hendrich officiating. Interment will follow the service.
