image Mr. Joseph Edward Hatchett, Sr. 74, 125 Infinity Drive, Elizabethton died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness. He was a native of New Jersey. Mr. Hatchett worked as a Barge Captain with oil companies and served time as a Merchant Marine.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years Shirley Oleda Taylor Hatchett, a daughter, Dottie Sparks and a son, Joseph Edward Hatchett, Jr. Survivors include four daughters Joanne Hatchett, Yvonne Munsey and husband David, Shirley Presnell and husband Gary and Earlene Jolly and husband Todd, all of Elizabethton; three sons, Edward Hatchett, Elizabethton, Glen Hatchett and wife Jennifer and Wayne Hatchett and wife Bertha, all of Florida; seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara and Lillian and a brother, John. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Mr. Joseph Edward Hatchett, Sr. will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Saturday, October 8, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Ancel Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service or at the residence at other times. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2011 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Phillip Sparks, Todd Jolly, David Munsey, Gary Presnell, Timothy M. Jenkins, Phillip Sparks II, Cody Jolly and Blake Munsey. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons, Edward Hatchett, Glen Hatchett and Wayne Hatchett. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 12:45 P.M. on Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
