Born in Georgetown, Tenn., on July 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee and Winnie Powell Murray.
Mrs. Bishop resided in Elizabethton for the majority of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Mickey Murray, and a brother, Willis E. Murray.
Mrs. Bishop was an active member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Elizabethton where she was a member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Paul J. Bishop, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Gary Richards, Knoxville; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Anna Bishop, Kingsport; and a granddaughter, Melanie Richards, Charleston, S.C. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Hubbard and her husband, Harold, Elizabethton; a brother, Lee Murray and his wife, Jane, Elizabethton; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Although there will be no formal visitation for Mrs. Bishop, a graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Jack Lloyd and Rev. Nathan Jennings officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from those attending the graveside service. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Richards, Grady Holder, Jeb Bishop, Lee Bishop, Mike Hubbard, Steve Hubbard, Richie Minton, Jay Dugger and her special neighbors, Ms. Charlie Burrow and family and Ms. Penny Minton and family. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
