Kenova A. “Ken” Potter, 93, formerly of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2013, from Grace Health Care in Lake Wales, Florida, following an extended illness. He was born October 17, 1919, in McRoberts, Kentucky, to the late William and Daisy Cole Potter. He had resided in Lake Wales, Florida, since 2004. He was a former employee of Bemberg Corporation and American Air Filter. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran of WWII, where he achieved the rank of T-5 and was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Ada Gouge Potter, on July 26, 2011; a brother, Benny Potter; two half-brothers, Bill Potter and Raymond Potter; and one half-sister, Rita Gibson. Mr. Potter enjoyed golf, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. He was a man of faith with a servant’s heart. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Melvin C. Goulds, Lake Wales, FL, and Teresa and Stewart Taylor, Dawsonville, GA; three grandchildren, Greg Alan Hodge and wife, Pam, Sarasota, FL, Derik Taylor and wife, Amy, Suwanee, GA, and Brad Taylor and wife, Beth, Cumming, GA; six great grandchildren, Alana Hodge and Savana Hodge, both of Sarasota, FL, Davis Taylor, Abby Taylor and Blake Taylor, all of Suwanee, GA, and Andie Taylor, Cumming, GA; one sister-in-law, Shirley Ingram and husband, W.C., Simpsonville, SC. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Potter will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Reggie Weems, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park, with military honors accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Greg Hodge, Derik Taylor, Brad Taylor, Roy Huskins, Bo Taylor and Greg Goulds.
