Larry E. Letterman, 66, of Johnson City, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Frank Letterman Sr. and Hattie Bryant Letterman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Letterman Jr.

Mr. Letterman worked for thirty four years as an assistant plant superintendent at Paty Lumber Company Truss Shop in Piney Flats, TN, and was a former employee of General Shale Company.

He graduated from Happy Valley High School, Class of 1964, and attended ETSU and graduated from Steed College. He was a member of Southwestern Baptist Church of Johnson City and was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War from 1969-1970.

Survivors include his wife of forty four years, Nancy Arrowood Letterman, of the home; two daughters, Patricia Lynn Parker and husband, Ted, Kingsport, and Jennifer Suzanne Holtsclaw and husband, David, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Olivia Ruth Parker and Preston Elias Parker, both of Kingsport, and Myra Suzanne Holtsclaw and Emma Grace Holtsclaw, both of Johnson City; two brothers, Kyle Letterman and wife, Mona, Johnson City, and Jerry Letterman and his beloved dog, Smoky, Salem, VA; sister-in-law, Leota Letterman, Telford, TN; aunts, Robenia Hall and Maude McNeal, both of Elizabethton, and Naomi Honeycutt and Orpha Woodby, both of North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Maggie Waters and husband, Jack, Blowing Rock, NC, Betty Reed, Johnson City, and Brenda Franklin and husband, Eddie, Nashville, TN; three brothers-in-law, Ted Arrowood and wife, Lou, Atlanta, GA, Joe Arrowood and wife, Jo Ellen, Noblesville, IN, and Henry Arrowood, Norman, OK. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The celebration of life service for Mr. Letterman will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 11, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Greg Salyer, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service; or at his residence at anytime.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Friday to go in procession.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the VA Medical Center doctors and nursing staff, especially Dr. Agnes Hamati and Dr. Beth Troum, Oncology Department and Primary Care, for all the love and care shown to him during his illness.
