Lawrence Ray Berry, 69, Elizabethton passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William McKinley and Mimmie Gregory Berry.
He was a 1962 graduate of Elizabethton High School and the Herman Robinson Vocational Training Center where he received his LPN Training. Lawrence served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and the Cuban Crisis. He retired due to disability from Appalachian Home Health Care in 1985 after 20 years of service.
He served on the Elizabethton City Council from 1993 to 1996 also as Mayor Pro-Tem.
He was a Coach in the Elizabethton Little League for 11 years, Past President of the Junior Babe Ruth League, Past Coach and member of the Board of Directors of Football of the Carter County Boys Club, Past Board Member of the Carter County Rescue Squad and Past Member of F.E.M.A. First Judicial Commissioner to be appointed by a Judge, The Honorable John Walton, General Session Judge.
He was Honorary Sgt. at Arms of the Tennessee State House of Representatives, Solider of the Month in 1979 of the 776th Maintenance Company, Tennessee National Guard. He was the first member of Neighborhood watch in the City of Elizabethton, Card #1. He also served on the Elizabethton Golf Course Board of Directors.
Mr. Berry was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church but had been attending Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers: Rev. Earl Berry, Carl Berry, Bill Berry and Jim Berry and one sister: Mary Jane Berry.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Nancy McKeehan Berry. One Daughter: Michelle Berry Smith, Elizabethton. Three Sons: Lawrence Anthony Berry and wife Dawn, Chuckey. Charles Berry, Elizabethton n Lawrence Berry

Four Sisters-In-Law: Barbara Berry, Helen Berry, Doris Berry and Sonjia Steele. Three Brothers-in-law: Jack Reep, J.W. Street, Jr., & Gene Colbaugh. Several Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Biggs and Rev. Timothy Gouge officiating. Entombment Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2013 in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Philippi Baptist Church Choir.
Active Pallbearers will be: Lawrence Anthony Berry, Charles Ray Berry, Jeffrey Berry, McKenly Ray Berry, Steven Berry, Jeffrey Berry II, and Christopher Ray Berry.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Members of the Elizabethton Police Department, Members of the Elizabethton Fire Department, Members of the Carter County Sheriff Department, Members of the Elizabethton City Council, Members of the Carter County Judicial System, Members of the Carter County Rescue Squad, Sarah Ellison, Jerry Bradley, Anthony Buck, Stacy Street, Brian Fraley, Mike Fraley, Clarence Willis, Terry Cannon, Junior Stanley, Dave Baker, Judge John Walton and Deacon Bowers.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the entire staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and the Tennessee National Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence.

Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
