Linda A. McKinney Couch, age 64, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at her residence following an extended and courageous battle with cancer.
A native of McDowell County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Virgil Robert and Zora Gardner McKinney.
Mrs. Couch worked as an LPN and was especially passionate about working in geriatric care. She loved to crochet, and had a special love of animals. Linda found great enjoyment in helping others, and was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Couch.
She is survived by her two daughters, Amy Sneyd and her husband, David, of Gray, and Robin Davis and her husband, Tim, of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Christopher Burrow and Malinda Nelson, both of Elizabethton; her foster sister, Linda Swaty, and her husband, Ben, of Friendswood, TX; her uncle, Vance McKinney, Bakersville, NC; two aunts, Bonnie Wilson, Elizabethton, and Rettia Morgan, Virginia; and special friends, Evelyn and Bob Stout, Bryon Stout, Cindy and Kendell Hartman, all of Elizabethton, and Robin Young, Johnson City. Several cousins, sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Couch will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, September 2, 2011, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Tony Crossnoe officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service or at the residence, 2308 Hillrise Avenue, Elizabethton, other times.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 3, 2011, in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 10:00 AM to travel together in procession.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Krishnan and the staff of the Regional Cancer Center for the loving and devoted care given to Linda during her illness.
