Lois Ellen Townsend, 93, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, December 12, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Townsend was a Carter County native and was born September 25, 1920. to the late Ira and Lola Lewis Grindstaff.

She was a former employee of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and a homemaker for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Townsend was a member of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John Townsend, a daughter, Donna Pentecost; two sons, Ron Townsend and the Rev. Johnny Townsend; two great grandsons: Travis Tolley and Andrew Thompson; and a sister, Alma Lyons.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Tolley, Nina Thompson and Florence Andes; one son-in-law, Paul Thompson and two daughters-in-law, Charlotte Townsend and Jackie Townsend, all of Elizabethton.

Mrs. Townsend was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren, all o whom were all very special to her. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Townsend will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Townsend officiating. Graveside Service and interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Gene Fleenor officiating. Music will be provided by the Rev. Jason Thompson. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law: Nina & Paul Thompson, 117 Williams Avenue, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Sunday will be Jamey Townsend, Kenneth Thompson, Dillon Andes, Joshua Pentecost, Brandon Bailey, Chip Bailey, Noah “Fuzz” Ensor, Doyce Sheffield, and Dustin Tolley. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Tolley, Steve Andes, James Williams, Phillip Williams, Tim Townsend, Chad Tolley, Mark Weddle, Jackie Williams, Adam Williams, and great-great Grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the Staff of Amedisys Hospice Care with a special thanks to Jemaah and Sarah. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Sunday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
