Lois Jean McClure, 72, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2013, from her residence, following an extended illness. She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late General and Goldie Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lily McQueen, Lena Carver and Loretta Morris; four brothers, Brooks, Cephus, Sterling and Coy; and a total of five half-brothers and half-sisters.
Ms. McClure retired from Carter County Memorial Hospital as a housekeeping supervisor. She was a member of Moore’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed dinners with family on special occasions.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Grindstaff and husband Keith; and Valerie Carrier and husband Kirk, both of Elizabethton; one son, Ronnie McClure, Elizabethton; two brothers, Freeman Taylor and wife Evelyn; and Jack Taylor and wife Roma, both of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Jason Grindstaff and wife Jessica, Ashley McClure, Adam Grindstaff, Whitney Marlowe and husband B.K., Ryan Mick, Kayla Carrier, Reanna McClure, and Luke Carrier; and a special friend, Jeff Pritchard. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service for Ms. McClure will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park, with the Rev. Clarence Phillips officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jason Grindstaff, Adam Grindstaff, Ryan Mick, Luke Carrier, Keith Grindstaff, and Kirk Carrier. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Pritchard and Ms. McClure’s nephews. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home, to go in procession.
