Loren L. Cordell, 79, of Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Daris Emory and Fasadie Harmon Cordell and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Hazel Cordell; five brothers, Natheniel Cordell, Oliver Cordell, Wayne Cordell, Daris Cordell, James Cordell; two sisters, Edith Cordell Davis and Flisty Cordell.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Cordell was a musician and was proud to have written and recorded songs. He was a member of Hampton Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Daisy Vaughn Cordell, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Woody Watkins, London, KY; three grandsons, Woody D. Watkins and his wife, Rose, Rockhold, KY, Michael R. Watkins and his wife, Paula, Merle G. Watkins and his wife, Lesley, all of London, KY; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen and Beulah Cordell, Elizabethton, Zane and Jo Ann Cordell, Perrysburg, OH, Gene and Bonnie Cordell, Telford, TN, Darrell and Barbara Cordell, Opelika, AL; a sister, Janice Cordell Stafford, Hampton, TN; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom mourn his passing.
The funeral service for Mr. Cordell will be conducted on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service or at the home at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, September 23, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #49. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
