Mrs. Louella Wilson Stockton, age 71, of 122 McCloud Street, Roan Mountain, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC following a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Fred and Gertrude Tolley Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Bennett and Earlene Montgomery; two brothers: Ralph Wilson and Ed Wilson.
Mrs. Stockton was the former owner and administrator of the Stockton Residential Home for Elderly in Roan Mountain and had been involved in nursing for forty-five years. She was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain where she served as song leader and was the past president of the Ladies’ Aid of the church.
Mrs. Stockton spent her life taking care of others and was an inspiration to everyone she met. She served her Savior faithfully and taught her children to worship Him. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to everyone.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years, Robert Leroy Stockton, of the home; two daughters, Diana Tolley and her husband, David; Tammy Blevins and her husband, Mark; one grandson, Robert Tolley and his wife, Hope; one granddaughter, Rebekah Tolley and her fiancé, Paul Jennings, all of Hampton; several very special nieces and nephews; and her church family at St. John Free Will Baptist Church also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Stockton will be conducted on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 8:00 PM at St. John Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain with Pastor Richard Shepherd and Pastor Carl Grindstaff officiating. Music will be under the direction of Darla McKinney, pianist and The Cook Family. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM prior to the service at the church or at the residence at other times.
The committal and entombment service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton at 10:15 AM on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Tolley, Mark Blevins, Randy Montgomery, Curtis Cannon, Paul Jennings, Fred Montgomery, Tony Bennett, Josh Devall and Todd Estep. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews and nieces, as well as the men of St. John Free Will Baptist Church.
The family would live to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Kimmel, Dr. Alfred Earwood, Dr. Tate, Dr. Haizlip, Dr. Anna Sobel and the nurses and staff at Cannon Memorial Hospital for not only their excellent care and attention, but their love and affection shown to Mrs. Stockton and her family on a daily basis.
