Lowell J. Keller, 81, of Ellenboro, NC, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC, following an extended illness.

He was born in Granite Falls, NC, and a former resident of Elizabethton, TN. Mr. Keller was the son of the late Felix J. and Ethel Carolina Fox Keller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Virginia Keller Retter; and two brothers, John Dale Keller and Arthur Kenneth Keller.

Mr. Keller was a former Industrial Arts teacher for fourteen years in West Palm Beach, FL, and was a retired housing developer and member of Fairview Baptist of Elizabethton. He was a 1949 graduate of Elizabethton High School and earned his Master’s Degree from ETSU in 1958, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Korean War.

He also loved fishing, gardening, and mowing his lawn.

Survivors include his wife of fifty eight years, Hattie Wiseman Keller, of the home; one daughter, Cynthia Keller Porter and husband, Andy, Beech Mountain, NC; one son, Dr. Jeffrey Keller and wife, Mollie, Ellenboro, NC; two grandsons, Blake Keller, Lake Mary, FL, and Aaron Bryan Keller, U.S. Army, Ft. Bragg, NC; one sister, Mary Jane Keller Hamrick, Port St. Lucie, FL; several nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Charlotte Keller, Ormond Beach, FL; and one brother-in-law, Bob Retter, Bluff City, TN.

The graveside service for Mr. Keller will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2013, in the Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. David Philbeck, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM-2:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:00 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
