Madelyn served as a Sunday School teacher for children at the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and was also involved in youth choir ministry there and with volunteering at a local mission in her younger years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and music and was a member of garden and book clubs. She especially enjoyed making homemade bread for people and chauffeuring Lee Anna’s friends to after school activities. During her later years she enjoyed traveling with her husband.

Madelyn worked at North American Rayon Corporation and at Happy Valley High School for many years.

Special appreciation is expressed to her friends, who enabled her to remain independent in her later years: Shelby and Jack Hensley, Von and Sally Luther, Gazie Ragep and Eva Phipps, Leonard and Susan Febuary, Bertha Davis, Frank Richardson, Jilla Vandeventer and Carrie Nance. Appreciation is also expressed to the staff at the Elizabethton Police and Fire Departments, the Carter County Rescue Squad, Sycamore Shoals Hospital, First Medical, and Johnson City Medical Center from the nurses and CNAs to the housekeeping staff, catering associates and physician specialists for executing their responsibilities with caring support.

The celebration of life service for Mrs. Rasar will include a pre-service musical reflection at 1:30 and then the formal service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton, with Mr. Steve Payne, Minister, and Reverend Ray Amos, officiating.
