Marcella C. Townsend, age 81, of Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Greene County, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Suella Price Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex S. Townsend (2003); and one sister, Doris McLaney.
Mrs. Townsend was a homemaker and a teacher’s aide for the Carter County Board of Education. She was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ and loved camping and playing dominoes with her friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Townsend, and one son, Dale Townsend, both of the home; one brother, William G. Carter, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 21st, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Roby Ellis, Minister, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, prior to the service in the chapel, and at the residence at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM Friday, June 22nd, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Dave Adkins, David McLaney, Tom Townsend, Steve Townsend, Kevin Townsend and David Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Jones, Bill Foster, Jeff Townsend and John Townsend. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton at 9:15 AM on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
