Mrs. Margaret Hughes Bailey, 74, 178 Ollie Collins Road, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late John Clingman and Ella Rose Holtsclaw McKinney and although she lived most of her life in Carter County she was born in Avery County, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Loy Hughes, on February 15, 1993; and her brother, Ernest McKinney.
She was a 1955 graduate of Cranberry High School and a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church. She was retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital with over twenty years of service.
She loved to work in her rose garden and watch game shows.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, Roy E. Bailey, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Michael McGee, Woodbridge, VA; a son, Keith Hughes, Elizabethton; two grandsons, Travis McGee and his wife, Robin, Fredericksburg, VA, Chris McGee, Woodbridge, VA; five great-grandchildren, Dalton, Hannah, Laura, Mason and Melinda; three step-children, John Bailey, Ireland, Cindy Fernandez, FL, Anita France, FL; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wallace McKinney, Elizabethton, Sam McKinney, Roan Mountain, and J.D. McKinney, Elk Park, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Bailey will be conducted on Friday, September 2, 2011, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Wayne Carr and Rev. W.C. Amos officiating. Music will be under the direction of Loren Harris.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday prior to the service and at the home at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Lester Julian, Roger Banks, Roger Hardin, Steve Brookings, Chris McGee and Travis McGee. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Southside Free Will Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
