Mrs. Margaret Stephens Manning, age 91, of Elizabethton, TN, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late William Warren (W.W.) and Celia Belle Teague Stephens. Mrs. Manning had built airplanes for the U.S. Navy and also worked at Yates Remnant Shop for twenty years. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. Mrs. Manning was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton, and the Fidelis Sunday School Class at First Christian Church. She worked in the Church nursery for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Cartha Chesser, Oscar Stephens, Ida Pate, William Stephens, Clara Kyte, Laura Kyte, Harold Stephens, Hazel Vanhuss, John Stephens, and an infant sister, Mary Ruth Stephens. Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Paul T. Manning, of the home; a daughter, Paula Manning, Elizabethton; a grandson, Marc Gibson and wife, Rachel, Charlotte, NC; a great-grandson, Ethan Gibson, Charlotte, NC; and special friends, Teresa Norris, Lanny Norris, Whitney Norris, Sara, Laban and Rilyn Propst and Randy and Patsy Tadlock. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Margaret Stephens Manning will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 21, 2013, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Don Marshall, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Gene Estep. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service or at the residence at other times. Interment will follow the service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Steve Dunlap, Tim Broyles, Brad Shepherd, Dan Harding, Whitney Norris, Lanny Norris and Steve Shepherd. Honorary pallbearers will be her Church family. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the E.T.S.U.
