Martha Mae Heaton, 86, Roan Mountain, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County she was a daughter of the late Dorothy Blackwell. She was a retired Nurse’s Aide at the Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Mrs. Heaton was a member of the Fork Mountain Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Hill; her 2nd Husband, Fred Heaton; and a daughter, Margaret Drum.

Mrs. Heaton loved to work in her garden, Quilt and cook.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Gilda & Steve Barnett, Roan Mountain, and Wanda & Gary Hawks, Statesville, North Carolina; 6 Grandchildren; Several Great and Great Great Grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 12 Noon Tuesday, May 21, 2013, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Richard Blevins and Rev. Randy English officiating. Active Pallbearers will be: Gary Hawks, Steve Barnett, Kenny Offield, Lee Hughes, Nyle Barnett, Steve Barnett and Eddie Webber. Honorary pallbearers will be: Delaney Berry, Bill Street, Ronnie Townsend and Gerald Drum.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Staff and employees of Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Dr. Kahn and Betsy.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit the family at the residence 353 Burbank Road, Roan Mountain.
