Mary Carolyn Williams Heaton, age 79, of Elizabethton, TN, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and friends.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Johnsie Griffin Williams.

Mrs. Heaton was a homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, the D.A.R. and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

She was a mother to all and liked to take care of everyone. Mrs. Heaton was loved by all. She was very compassionate for our military and troops. She enjoyed old movies and always had a joke ready to make everyone laugh and loved animals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Birdie” Heaton, in 1986; one brother, Bill Williams; three sisters, Beverly “Tootsie” Stanton, Joann Williams and Louise “Teanie” Hayes; a niece, Jane Stanton; and one nephew, Lee Fries.

Survivors include three children, Ric Heaton and wifem Susan, Raleigh, NC, Tim Fries, of the home, and Sallie Luther and husband, Von, Elizabethton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; an “adopted sister,” Ruth Goodwin, Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, Bill Heaton and wife, Susan, Madisonville, KY; and a sister-in-law, Anne Bicknell and husband, Warren, Thomasville, GA. Several nieces, nephews and her dog, Mollie, also survive.

Funeral service for Mary Carolyn Williams Heaton will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 13, 2013, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Eulogy will be given by Mr. Bill Heaton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service or at the residence of her daughter, Sallie Luther, at other times.

Interment will follow the funeral service on Sunday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Nathan Hardin, Aaron Hardin, Terry Guinn, David Guinn, Chad Allara and Mike Fouts. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam LaPorte, Ted Tipton, Dr. Ted Taylor, Tony Greene, John Stanton, Bill Stanton, Dr. Steven Bowers, Warren Bicknell, Dr. John Hathaway, Steve Chambers, Jerry Calhoun, Valentine Suta, Hensel Taylor, Johnny Fathering, Kenny Webb, John Brumit, Tommy Corbett, Lee Corbett and Steven Goodwin.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Angela Merrifield and Staff of State of Franklin Health Care Associates, Dr. Ken Cutshall, the staff of Amedysis Hospice, Amedysis Home Health Care, caregivers, Kevin Whitehead and Riley Thompson and friends and neighbors of Ferguson Avenue.
