Mary Elizabeth, “Susie” Lyons, 66, Hampton, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband and family. As she went to sleep, she was ushered into Heaven by God’s angels and woke in the arms of Jesus, never to suffer again. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Gay Bell Honeycutt; two sisters, June Dale Honeycutt and Farelene “Abby” Roberts; two brothers, Elmer Honeycutt, Jr., and Jimmy Honeycutt. Susie loved the Lord with all of her heart and served him faithfully until her death. She loved her husband with all of her heart. Her family was her pride and joy, and she enjoyed caring for them. She was affectionately known as Sue-Sue to all of her nieces and nephews. She loved her church and church family dearly. She was a member of the Hampton Church of God where she loved to sing and teach the children in her Sunday School Class. Susie loved to read her Bible, to pray and talk about God. She was a witness to all who knew her.

Mrs. Lyons is survived by her husband of forty-four years, George Lenore Lyons of the home; three sisters and their spouses, Geraldine and Lonnie Shell, Elizabethton; Evelyn and Doyle Jones, Unicoi; Hattie Lee and Darrell Hitechew, Hampton; three sisters-in-law, Janice Honeycutt and Tish Honeycutt, Elizabethton; and Sylvia Crabtree of Indiana; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Junior and Dora Lyons, OH. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews and their spouses, Scott and Cindy Roberts; Chuckie and Zerena Jones; Holly and Glen Wiseman; Amy and Josh Green; Michelle Hitechew; Cindy Grindstaff; Courtney and Ricky Birchfield; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kristen Roberts, Darryl Hitechew, Peyton Wiseman, Kaiser Gouge, Jonah Green, Carter Green, and Baby Birchfield. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Lyons will be conducted on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Hobert Bradshaw and Rev. Charlie Trivette officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Hampton Church of God singers and Loren Harris. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Saturday prior to the service and at other times at the home of her sister, Geraldine Shell of Elizabethton. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Birchfield, Josh Green, Darrell Hitechew, Joe Hitechew, J.L. Mullins, Michael Mullins, Lonnie Shell, and Buster Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Hitechew, B.J. Honeycutt, Neil Honeycutt, George Jarrett, Chuckie Jones, Doyle Jones, Scott Roberts, Amos Stevens, Jr.; Glen Wiseman, and the men of the Hampton Church of God. The family wishes to extend a special thank you the 4500 Oncology Floor Nurses and Staff of the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Dr. Mark Williams, Dr. Vivian Clark, Dr. Jeffrey Schoondyke, Dr. Enk, Amedisys Home Health of Elizabethton, and Mountain States Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion given to Susie and her family.
