Mary Ivadene Rutter, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011, at Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

She was the daughter of the late Steve and Pearl Williams Rutter and was born in Carter County.

Ms. Rutter was a 1951 graduate of Unaka High School. She was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church and was retired from Winn-Dixie following 44½ years of service.

She loved sports and supported the teams enthusiastically while she was in school. She followed the Lady Vols and loved to watch them play on TV, trying to never miss a game. While she was still in good health she enjoyed traveling.

Ms. Rutter is survived by many cousins.

The graveside service for Ms. Rutter will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Burkhart officiating. Active pallbearers will be Dan Holder, Bill Cline, Jim Boone, Jerry Bowers, Chris Guy, Jack Greer, Mike Williams and Emerson Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the 1951 Class of Unaka High School, former employees of Anderson’s Super Market and Winn-Dixie, Earl and Dora Williams, Frank and Betty Taylor, Ken and Carlene Norton, Brenda and Linda Williams, Debbie Buckles and Brian Mathes, and her special caregivers, Frank and Lula Childers, Frances Nave, Denise Hood and Paula Phillips, Cathleen Payne and a special friend, Nancy. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter Emergency Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 765, Elizabethton, Tennessee 37644; or Hunter United Methodist Church, 722 Hwy. 91, Elizabethton, Tennessee 37643; or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 2335 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City, Tennessee 37604.
