Mary Nell Mottern Brown, 77, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away Monday, December 12, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born in Carter County on April 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Hugh Mottern and Anna Belle Stout Mottern. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Tom†Brown, and two brothers, Ralph Mottern and Johnny Mottern.
Mrs. Brown was a member of McGill Presbyterian Church. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Moore and husband, Mike, Elizabethton, and Teresa Thomas and husband, Raymond, Roan Mountain; two sons, Greg Brown, Roan Mountain, and Tommy Brown and wife, Jackie, Roan Mountain; grandchildren, Brittney King and husband, Israel, Heather Ellison and husband, Derek, Thomas Jack Brown, Stephanie Moore and Brandon Moore; three great-grandchildren, Hailey King, Hunter King and Jaxson Ellison; a brother, Harold Mottern; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Brown will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, December 16, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Martin Christian officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charlotte Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of Greg Brown, 151 Smith Branch Road, Roan Mountain, at anytime. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Carter County Emergency Rescue Squad, P.O.
