Michael E. Vance, 55, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
He was born in Baltimore, Md., but had lived most of his life in Carter County.
Mike was a 1977 graduate of Unaka High School. He was employed as a mechanic at the Carter County School Bus Garage, having worked there for 28 years.
Mike was a member of Borderview Christian Church, where he operated the sound system and was a member of the Praise Band.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kersey W. “Pat” Vance, who died May 18, 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Waycaster Vance; his mother, Mae Harmon Vance, Life Care Center of Elizabethton; several aunts and cousins; his mother-in-law, Marie Waycaster, Hampton; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Jones, Hampton; a brother-in-law, Billy Waycaster, Hampton; a special niece, Brandi Jones; and a special canine friend, “General.”
Graveside services for Mr. Vance will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Kirk Langston, minister, officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be mechanics at the Carter County Bus Garage: Jerry Nave, Danny Calloway, Wayne Sams, Matthew Baird, Jonathan Bowers and Johnnie Vines. Honorary pallbearers will be The Praise Band, Borderview Christian Church and Harold Bowers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
