Mildred McKinney Campbell, 81, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in the Roan Highlands Nursing Center.

A native of Dickenson County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Pink and Maude Mathes McKinney. She had lived in Elizabethton for the majority of her life.

Mildred was known by her kindness and wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed her life and found joy in the everyday events of life. Her positive outlook influenced everyone around her.

Mildred was a 1950 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She retired from Sperry, managed Caribbean Tan and also worked at Wal-Mart in the Shoe Department.

Mrs. Campbell was a member of the East Side Christian Church but attended Carter Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Campbell; infant sisters, Mary McKinney, Dorothy Louise McKinney; two sisters: Audrey Duty, Anna Ruth Nelson and Arlena Moore; and three brothers: Ollie McKinney, Bill McKinney and Charlie “Dee” McKinney.

Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Linda and Tony Hardin, Alcoa, Tenn., a son & daughter-in-law: Scott and Kathy Campbell, Elizabethton; Four Grandchildren; Richard Akers and wife Kellee, Nashville, Steven Hardin and wife, Tanika, Hampton, T.J. Hardin and Stepahnie Edens and Ben Hardin, Elizabethton. Five Great Grandchildren: Luke Akers, Natalie Akers, Katherine Akers, Lyla Hardin and Veda Hardin (born April 24, 2013, the day of Mrs. Campbell’s passing); Several nieces & nephews; A special great niece: Christy Moore Lowe who was very loving and caring to her great aunt, Mac; Her Brother-in-law: Richard Campbell and wife, Sylvia, Elizabethton.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Daryl Cox, Minister, officiating.

Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Tanika Hardin. Active Pallbearers will be: Richard Akers, Steven Hardin, T.J. Hardin, Ben Hardin, Eric Shepherd and family and friends.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Vivian Clark and the Staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center for the excellent care our mother received during her stay at the nursing home.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon Saturday until the service hour. Friends may also visit the family at the residence of her son: Scott Campbell, 133 Sneed Hill Road, Elizabethton.
