Mildred B. Greene, 85, Knoxville, formerly of Johnson City, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013, at Tennova Medical Center in Knoxville.

A native of Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Buell and Mary Etta Stamey Hubbard. Mrs. Greene was a member at East Unaka Christian Church. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother as well as a devoted caregiver to family and friends all of her life.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert H. Greene; a brother, Paul Hubbard; a sister, Lorene Bare; and a grandson, Matthew Miller.

She leaves behind her children, Gary Greene, Memphis, Sharon Hotchkiss, Cleveland, OH, Karen Miller, Johnson City, Marsha Coggins, Knoxville, Greg Greene, Johnson City, and Marian Lewis, Knoxville; grandchildren, Jered Lance, Jeremy Lance, Neil Miller, Leia Miller, Holly Falin, Carlie Coggins, Linde Coggins and Andrew Lewis; great grandchildren, Jerica Lance, Riley Lance, Laney Falin and Macy Falin Kinley Warshol, Kaden Warshol, Matthew Williams, John Peyton Williams, Cameron Malcomb and Jackson Malcomb; a great-great grandchild, Skyler Lance; a brother, Harold Hubbard; and a sister, Martha VanHuss. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mildred’s life was devoted to home and family. Having six children, her days were filled with a blend of homemaking, scheduling, cooking, cleaning, sewing, taxi service and everything in between. Then as grandchildren came along, the process began again. She took great pride in everything they did.

Throughout the years, Mildred had several hobbies including sewing, ceramics and crafting, but flower gardening was her favorite. Much like her mother, she had a green thumb. Her homemaking skills were passed on down to the next generation. She enjoyed baby-sitting, cooking, cleaning, sewing and participating in any way to help in raising her grandchildren.

Our family will always remember and recognize this labor of love. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her involvement in their lives was a blessing to our family. “Nan,” as the grandchildren always called her, told them stories about life in the “old days.”
