Mrs. Nancy Huggins, 88, formerly of Matthews, N.C., passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Morningside Assisted Living, Lancaster, S.C. She was born March 7, 1923 in Johnson County, Tenn., daughter of the late Ceford and Celia Hatley Dugger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Huggins Jr.; three brothers, Lucky, Fate and Paul Dugger; and two sisters, Rodah Dugger and Ona Dugger Treadway. Mrs. Huggins was a graduate of Watauga Academy, Butler, Tenn., and Steed School of Business, Elizabethton, Tenn. She was employed by Beaunit Mills, Elizabethton, Tenn., for 14 years as an executive secretary. She had been a resident of Matthews and a member of First Baptist Church of Matthews since 1961 and a member of the Happy Times Club since 1979. Mrs. Huggins will always be remembered for her fun personality, her perfectly detailed craftwork and her expertise as a seamstress.
Mrs. Huggins is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Lynne Huggins of Charlotte, and Richard and Jane Huggins of Lancaster, S.C.; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Hurt of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and five nephews, Jeff Treadway and Terry Treadway, both of Elizabethton, Scotty Hughes, Johnson City, George Hughes, Waco, Texas, and Keith Dugger, Spokane, Wash.
The family will receive friends at Tetrick Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The graveside and inurnment service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
