Norma Elliott Neece, 90, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Lakebridge Health Care Center. She was born in Elizabethton, TN, on January 18, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Dayton and Sally Deloach Elliott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. “Tommy” Neece, in 2006; a brother and sister-in-law, Thurman and Nova Elliott; and two nephews, T.J. Elliott and Patrick Elliott. Mrs. Neece was a homemaker and a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. She graduated from Elizabethton High School and Steed College. She worked several years in the Carter County School System as a secretary and a county lunchroom supervisor. She was an avid lover of animals and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Marilyn Neece, Greeneville, TN, and Steve Neece, Murfreesboro, TN; one granddaughter, Leslie Hedges, of Johnson City; one grandson, John Douglas Neece and wife, Amanda, Murfreesboro, TN; three great granddaughters, Laci and Lexi Hedges, Johnson City, and Kaylee Neece, Murfreesboro, TN; two great grandsons, Caleb Hughes, of Johnson City, and Austin Kelley, Murfreesboro, TN; and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elwood “Woodie” and Jane Neece, Lillian, AL. The funeral service for Mrs. Neece will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. John Perkins and Rev. Mike Richards, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM-7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 24, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John D. Neece, Jack Street, George Ritchie, Joe McClain, Charles Jones and Chris Hedges. Honorary pallbearers will Gebe Ritchie, T.J. Sparks, Bob Grant, Steve Payne, Charlie Bayless, Ted Maxwell and Richard Renfro. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at 10:15 AM at the funeral home on Friday, to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Lakebridge Health Care Center and Caris Hospice for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Neece during her illness.
