Norma Jean Kyte, 73, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at Pine Ridge Care Center. A native of Avery County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Luther and Myrtle Hardin Church. Mrs. Kyte had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. Norma was a retired employee of Levi-Strauss. She was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Wayne Kyte, and a brother, Stanley “Buddy†Church.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Kyte; a daughter, Jada Peters, Elizabethton; a son, James A. Kyte Jr., Johnson City; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rick Church and his wife Kay, Elizabethton.
Graveside services for Mrs. Kyte will be conducted at noon Friday, March 25, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
