Oscar Lee Hughes, 92, Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, passed away Friday March 2, 2012, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was a son of the late Toye E. & Blanche Proveaux Hughes.

He was retired from the Spinning Department of North American Rayon Corporation. Mr. Hughes served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2166. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Faulkner Hughes; a son: Billy Hughes; and a sister: Irene Parker.

Survivors include a Grandson: Kevin Hughes; A Granddaughter: Kristy Swafford; One Great Grandson; Three Sisters: Christine Matheson, Elizabethton, Shirley Fair, Watauga, and Patsy Frazier and companion, Harold Oakes, Bristol; Three Brothers & and Sisters-in-Law: Lester & Jo Ruth Hughes and John & Betty Hughes, all of Johnson City, and Jack & Judy Hughes, Elizabethton; Several nieces, nephews & cousins and his special friends: Blanche Cross and Sue.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Gene Fleenor officiating.

Burial will follow the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
