Patricia (Sue) Leake, age 70, of Johnson City, TN, left earth for her heavenly home and slipped into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, May 25, 2012, after a long and very courageous battle with cancer.
Sue was born in Elizabethton, TN, on November 30, 1941, and was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel (Eggers) Mustard (1985) and Henry J. Mustard (1996).
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kyle Leake; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Kevin Lindsay, of Birmingham, AL; a son and daughter-in-love, Greg and Melissa Leake and two beloved grandsons, Grayson and Grant Leake, all of Johnson City, TN. Other survivors include a brother, Frank Mustard (wife, Betty) of Elizabethton, TN; two brothers-in-law, Phil Leake (wife, Mary) of Talco, TX, and Tom (wife, Nancy) of Tyler, TX; aunt, Rosie Wilcox; and devoted friend and sister in love, Kris Hecht; several nieces, cousins and many loyal friends. To those who knew and loved her best she was affectionately known as “Su Su.â€
Sue graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1959 and went to study at ETSU, later earning her CPC and CPMA. While working in Washington, DC, for the FBI she met her husband, Kyle. Following their marriage and his release from the US Navy, they returned to make their home in TN, where Sue held positions locally for many years in the areas of finance, banking and medical services/administration.
Sue was a committed believer in Jesus Christ from her childhood and held membership in various local churches over the years, where she was active in women’s ministry, as a Sunday School teacher, soloist, choir member and fervent prayer warrior, in addition to countless “behind the scenes†activities. More recently she became a member of Immanuel Bible Church of Johnson City. Sue was known for her love of scriptures and taught Precept (and other) Bible Studies in homes and churches for many years. She was also active in many Christian endeavors, including, but not limited to, the Johnson City Christian Women’s Club, The Emmaus Walk and Precept Ministries.
She loved people and had countless friends in every walk of life. She always had a great zest for living, even throughout her long illness. Her desire to give glory to God was evident to all even in her final weeks on earth when she was often heard quoting scripture verses, including her favorite: Jeremiah 29:11, “My child I know the plans I have for you; plans for good and not for evil to give you a future and a hope.†Sue has now realized her ultimate future and hope with her heavenly father in heaven. Her greatest joy would be that all her family and many friends join her in heaven one day, having placed their trust and faith in Jesus Christ alone.
The family expresses a special thanks to her devoted physician and family friend Dr. Keith Cook, to whom we are eternally grateful. Also to the physicians and staff of Johnson City Internal Medicine Associates. We are also thankful to Dr. Floyd and the staff at JCMC Cancer Treatment Center with special thanks to Leigh Mears. We also will never forget the superior nursing care provided at JCMC on 5200, 3200, ICU and 4200.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services, Johnson City, TN.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 7 p.m. with Reverend Jonathan Peppers and Reverend Ken Hecht officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, TN. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. if traveling in the procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jim Bowman, Bill Dykes, Les Cole, Jonathan Royce, L.B. Ottinger and Craig Murray. Honorary pallbearers will Charles Wilson, Jack Eves, Wayne Overbay, Mitch Rackley, Curt Lynn, Fred Simerly and Jerry Cordell.
