Pearl Jane Lyons Cox, 85, 466 Cripple Creek Loop, Watauga went home to be with her Lord, Sunday, May 12, 2013 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John Joseph and Demmie Lyons. Mrs. Cox was retired from the United Inter Mountain Telephone Company after 23 years of service. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter: Barbara Pierce Garland.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years: Earl J. Cox. Two Grandchildren; David Garland and wife Joan, and Richard Garland and wife Sylvia all of Elizabethton. Four Great Grandchildren: Brandon Garland, Lucus Garland, John Garland and wife Lisa and Joey Garland and wife Jeannie. A Great Great Granddaughter: Gloria Garland. A Brother & Sister-in-Law: Ray & Margie Lyons, Elizabethton. Her Son-in-Law; Roy Garland. Several Nieces & Nephews. Her Brother & Sister-in-Law: Paul & Martha Cox, Ruby Woods and Carol Staples.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Entombment Services will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday will be: John Garland, Joey Garland, Chris Fair, Robert Cox, Paul Cox, Jr., and Kenneth Woods. Honorary Pallbearers will be former employees of United Inter Mountain Telephone Company and Clarence Wilson, Jr.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the ICU Staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital for all the care that was shown to Pearl.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
