Peggy Joyce West Harper, 69, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away October 30, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was born in Sumner County, Tennessee, but had lived most of her life in Elizabethton, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Albert Bennett and Mildred Kirkham West.

She graduated with the class of 1961 at Sumner County High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and truly cherished teaching her Sunday school classes and singing in the church choir. She thoroughly loved helping people and was actively involved with the WMU and the Open Heart Missions Group. In addition to these organizations, she also volunteered at the Shepard’s Inn of Elizabethton.

She retired from Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank.

Peggy is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Jerry Harper, of the home; one daughter and son in law, Kathy Harper May and Joe May, and granddaughter, Emily, all of Elizabethton; one son and daughter in law, Randy Harper and Lori Harper, and grandsons, Price, Reed and Vance, all of Clemmons, NC; four sisters, Barbara Hailey, Lois Savage, Diane Dorris and Teresa Graves, all from Middle Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Harper will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton with Reverend James Lindsey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service in the funeral home chapel. Music will be under the direction of Tonia and Chris Hughes, John Bunn and Rene Huntsinger.

The graveside service will be conducted on Monday, November 5, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Messenger Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church and all of her friends at Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
